Of Wealth and Feng Shui

One sunny day while on a visit to have my hair cut in Singapore, my hairdresser asked sheepishly “Do you know if today is a good  day for me to buy Toto?” (For those who doesn’t know what Toto is,  it is similar to Tatslotto in Australia – those regular lottery draws that people buy, hoping that they will strike first prize and get rich). I know that he asked the question in a rather half jokingly manner, so I just smiled and said: “Everyday is a good day if you believe in it.”

In the various Feng Shui talks and seminars that I did, a lot of people keep coming up to me and asked  “What should I put in my house in order to increase my wealth?”  I noticed that there are a lot of people who believe that Feng Shui can turn their life around and make them rich overnight.  They perceived that Feng Shui can make them wealthy by putting artifacts here and there. I believe this perception arises from the various books and claims in the market and sometimes by overly-commercialised ’Feng Shui experts’ that promises wealth if you buy their stuffs…

Well sorry to disappoint some of you… Feng Shui is not all about wealth creation. Yes, Feng Shui can aid in wealth creation but it is YOU who determines how much wealth you can generate. You can’t just put things here and there and expect money to fall from the sky. Feng Shui does not work this way.

There are many factors that determines your capacity to generate wealth. Feng Shui is only one of them. The other factor that is equally important is your Bazi or Four Pillars of Destiny. Your Bazi will tell you your capacity for generating wealth. Together with the ‘luck cycle’, a Feng Shui consultant can guide you on when is a  good time to generate wealth and advise on the profession or industry that is favourable to you. So what can Feng Shui do? Feng Shui aids by creating a benefitting atmosphere for you. It helps to harmonize your house or your office to create a better living space. As a result, you will have more energy, more harmonious relationship with your family and friends and starts to attract more positive responses to your life. It helps to reduce obstacles and thus helps pave the way to a more smoother wealth making opportunities. So stop the wishful thinking that you will get rich with a snap of your finger. To generate wealth, you will still have to work hard for it. :p
